A whispered wish of remembrance
Silent words of loss
A song of good bye
An unspoken prayer for lasting peace
A message of hope
Rejoice for the spirit that has passed.
Release the sorrow and the sadness.
Rebuild a life again.

Emerging from your cocoon so gently placed
Sensing the freedom in the waiting sky
Wings open and quickly a flight
A drift in the air
dancing with the wind
Aglow in the sunlight.
The message of hope
Touching the spirit
Teaching to begin anew
Transforming the wish into hope
on the radiant wing of a butterfly.
(KA Dyer)

Liebe Malaika,
I am very, very proud of you.
You've done it!
Now you can fly - on the radiant wing of the butterfly - into your future.
Deine Claudia

Liebe Malaika,

First,
CONGRATULATIONS MALAIKA!
Your American friends, Janet and Noa, are so proud of you! (And bravo to the proud Mom, Doris, for all of your encouragement.)
Second, I realized, on reading this book, that the message that I sent on February 20, 2007, when I first heard about Frank, was never posted in this Guest Book. I will post it in my next message. This message should be only joyful! With much love, Janet

MESSAGE SENT on
20 FEBRUARY 2007
---------------------------
Dear Doris, Bianca, Claudia & Robin, and Malaika,

I received your e-mail the other day and left it unopened, waiting until
I had time to enjoy savoring more adventures of the brave explorers!
Only today did I open the letter and read, instead, the terrible news.

My heart is torn. I have a huge pain in my chest. I cannot speak.
Just a few weeks ago, Frank and Doris were dancing with penguins.
The dancing is over.

I cannot express how awful I feel. It is so, so, so unfair. I think about
all the good that Frank did in his life. His work in Africa. The clinic,
the school, his highest standards for dentistry, his high expectations
and ambitions for his girls, the exchange students, his warmth,
his always-welcoming heart. His vision, his energy, his commitment.
His adventurous spirit. His appearance in New York -- with his family! --
at my wedding to Juergen. His consistent support and friendship.

I had the idea that one day in the not-too-far-off future I would take Noa on a
trip to Germany to visit my wonderful friends, Frank and Doris. I waited too long.

I wish I could be near you now. You -- and Frank -- are in my thoughts.
I send you each a hug and a wish: hold on to all the wonderful memories
that Frank left. They are the treasures we will always have.

With love,
Janet
